Occupational Health & Safety Laws and Obligations

The Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Acts throughout Australia call for all portable equipment, appliances, electric tools, extension leads, power boards and portable residual devices in commercial and industrial areas be tested and tagged for safety on a regular basis.

Under the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Act (2004), the employer has a legal obligation to ensure that the workplace and equipment are safe, without risks to health. This means identifying whether there are any hazards associated with electrical equipment, assessing those risks and taking measures to eliminate or control them.
